“Alone – Survive the Wilderness” is the title of a new survival experiment in the wilderness that RTL+ filmed in Canada.

Christian Lindenthaler (43) from Bad Tölz is there.

The series will air from February 8th.

Bad Tölz

– “Alone” is the German edition of an already internationally successful survival experiment.

The idea comes from the USA.

Ten candidates are left alone in the wilderness and have to survive there without contact with the outside world.

Whoever lasts the longest wins 75,000 euros.

Among the eight men and two women in the first German edition is the nature and wilderness educator Christian Lindenthaler, nickname: “Crii”.

The 43-year-old has lived in the region for around ten years, currently in Tölz.

He actually comes from Tyrol.

He learned his knowledge, among other things, at the “Nature and Wilderness School of the Alps” and from various wilderness experts in the USA.

In Tyrol he worked for the “Lebensoart” association, which takes children and young people from difficult social backgrounds into nature in order to give them self-confidence.

In the Tölzer Land, Lindenthaler and his wife Sarah-Céline, who is a trained herbal educator, are one of the partners in the Tölzer Land herbal adventure region.

The couple runs the nature and wilderness school “Green Paths”, where they offer wilderness courses, plant knowledge and crafts such as bow making, leather tanning, basket weaving and prehistoric pottery.

They recently held the courses in the Hochland settlement in Königsdorf, and they also work as employees of forest kindergartens.

Nature gives him a lot of strength, says the 43-year-old.

“I always feel great gratitude when I'm out and about.” Lindenthaler, who is well connected in the wilderness trainer scene, was already familiar with the television format “Alone” from other countries.

“When I spoke to production about the format for the first time last year, I was very happy,” says Lindenthaler.

He was invited to a selection camp in Baden-Württemberg, passed the test and was finally accepted for the shoot.

Participants had to film themselves

Only then did he learn that this season would be filmed on Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada.

The 32,000 square kilometer island consists of swamps, glaciers, mountains, beaches, rivers and lakes.

There are also numerous predators such as cougars, bears and wolves.

The ten candidates were allowed to take a backpack with specified clothing and personal items as well as tracking, communication and security equipment.

They should also pack ten items of their choice from a given list.

Lindenthaler chose, among other things, a bow and arrow, a fishing line, a cooking pot, an axe, a saw, a sleeping bag, a tarpaulin, parachute cords and a multifunctional pocket knife.

The participants were then released separately miles away on Vancouver Island.

The special thing is that everyone had to film themselves in this experiment.

That's why they got the appropriate equipment.

The series then emerged from these videos.

Strict hunting requirements and an emergency plan

“I immediately fell in love with the place where I was abandoned,” reports Lindenthaler.

He is not allowed to reveal anything about this time, only that it was a bay.

In the following time he roamed the forests, among other things looking for something to eat.

The candidates were subject to the strictest requirements when searching for food and hunting, reports Lindenthaler.

In addition, a security team was available should a dangerous or even life-threatening situation arise.

“We were appropriately equipped for that,” says the 43-year-old.

Among other things, he had to carry a wild animal spray with him in case of emergencies.

For safety reasons, everyone had a GPS tracker with them.

Filming took place in October.

How was the weather there?

“Unfortunately I’m not allowed to say anything about that,” says Lindenthaler promisingly.

That will play a big role in the broadcast.

He's also not allowed to reveal how long he lasted.

In any case, for him it was a “great experience” and an “incredible time”.

There's something special about filming yourself and telling people what you're doing and how you feel about it.

“When you’re alone in the wilderness like that, a lot of emotions come up.”
