EL PAÍS journalist Juan Diego Quesada analyzes the figure of Nayib Bukele, who swept this Sunday's elections to remain in command of El Salvador.
With 85% of the votes, according to the figures provided by the president himself, his popularity is undeniable, despite the criticism regarding human rights that has arisen as a result of the emergency regime.
Bukele's party, Nuevas Ideas, has also achieved an important victory in the Legislative Assembly, where it will have 58 of the 60 deputies.
This position of power will make it easier for the president to continue with the security policies that he has defended until now, with which he has supposedly dismantled the active gangs in the country.
