On 5 and 6 February, Slovenia will host the World Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence entitled "Transforming AI Governance" promoted by UNESCO in Kranj.
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has created many opportunities globally, from facilitating healthcare diagnostics, to automating work tasks;
changes that also raise profound ethical concerns, from contributing to climate collapse to threatening human rights.
"These versatile technologies are reshaping the way we work, interact and live - underlines UNESCO - The world is destined to change at a pace not seen since the advent of the printing press six centuries ago. AI technology, in fact , brings great advantages in many sectors, but without ethical protections it risks replicating prejudice and discrimination, fueling divisions and threatening human rights and fundamental freedoms."
Therefore, UNESCO underlines, "in no other field is the ethical compass more relevant than in the field of artificial intelligence".
For this reason, the forum held in Kranj aims to bring together knowledge and know-how from countries at different levels of technological and political development, for an in-depth exchange to learn from each other and for dialogue with the private sector, the world academic and civil society.
Already in 2021, UNESCO adopted the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, which guides its implementation by Member States to ensure that the benefits of AI are equitable, inclusive, sustainable and non-discriminatory.
