The mild temperatures at the beginning of the month are deceptive, because the weather is expected to change soon.

According to the current forecast, it will hardly be wintery.

Munich – While the first signs of spring appeared on the first weekend in February, it is now getting cooler again.

But it remains a short winter interlude that barely drops below zero.

Less snow and more rain are expected in Germany in the next few days.

According to meteorologist Dominik Jung from

wetter.net

, the risk of flooding is increasing.

The reason is the air mass limit, which will be “repressed” again at the weekend.

First mild, then cool: That is the weather forecast for Germany

At the start of February, however, there was less rain and higher temperatures.

“The Polar Express still seems to be late or has been overtaken by the Canary Islands ICE,” said Jung in his weather forecast, adding: “Because the temperatures are clearly too mild for the time of year.” Accordingly, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen 17.3 degrees, 16.3 degrees in Oberstdorf and 13.3 degrees in Munich.

The meteorologist says that the temperatures at the beginning of the month are “much too high for the current season”.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) also estimates February to be too mild this year.

“The fact remains: February is calculated to be one or two degrees too warm,” explains Jung of the NOAA weather model.

This makes it the third winter month in a row that is milder than in the years 1991 to 2020.

In some cities and towns in Germany, the highest lowest temperatures in February since weather records began were recorded on Monday (February 5th).

Weather forecast for Germany predicts heavy rain

Despite the mild weather trends so far, cold periods in February are certainly possible.

The weather forecast for Germany predicts a wet front in the next few days.

Before the second weekend in February there should be heavy rain and isolated snow due to the air mass limit.

According to Jung, the air mass limit will be “at the start” from Wednesday (February 7th).

This is expected to lead to rain and snow in the middle of the country.

The following day, low single-digit temperatures are expected in northern Germany, while it will remain relatively mild in the south.

On Friday the air masses are expected to shift to the north.

As a result, precipitation and snow are expected in the north at this point at the latest.

According to the weather forecast, the risk of flooding will increase in mid-February due to heavy rainfall.

By midday on Friday, 50 to 70 liters of precipitation per square meter is forecast in Lower Saxony, Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Hesse.

“The river levels will rise noticeably again,” said Jung.

The risk of flooding is increasing.

Milder temperatures are expected again from Saturday.

According to the weather forecast, it will be very mixed during the carnival parades, with highs between six and eleven degrees.

“It's getting cooler, but it doesn't really feel like winter,” explains Jung.

The European weather model predicts lower temperatures, but he sticks to it: “Nothing is certain yet.” When it comes to snow, winter fans shouldn’t hope for too much because, according to the meteorologist, “muddy mess” is more likely to remain.
