The tripling of parking prices for SUVs in Paris was voted on on Sunday. In Neuilly-sur-Seine, the news is warmly welcomed

“Hidalgo doesn’t know what to do to annoy us anymore.

» Crossing avenue du Général-de-Gaulle, Sophie, a resident of Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine), had not digested, this Monday, the result of the vote organized on Sunday February 4, in Paris on parking rates for heavy vehicles, particularly SUVs.

These will now be subject to a “specific rate” in the capital.

This measure was approved this Sunday by a little more than half of the 6% of Parisian voters who went to the polls.

A tripling of prices for vehicles weighing more than 1.6 tonnes (or two tonnes for electric vehicles) which is causing a reaction on the other side of Porte Maillot.

“Hidalgo needs money and doesn’t know what to invent anymore”

Sophie's anger is explained: this 43-year-old human resources director has three children and owns, with her husband, two SUVs.

“She (

Anne Hidalgo

) needs money and no longer knows what to invent.

She'd better take care of the rats and keeping the city clean.

But in the streets of Neuilly, not everyone shares his annoyance.

For Guy, 82, this measure is even good news, even if ecological considerations are not at the center of his concerns.

“I just think that these huge vehicles have nothing to do in the city

,

” says the retiree.

He nevertheless remains pragmatic about the motivations of the Paris town hall, ensuring that it is in reality a “disguised tax”

.

“Accessibility in the city is increasingly complicated”

A few meters from Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, Pierre is about to get on his bike.

This 48-year-old craftsman is divided.

“On the one hand I find that it is very good to regulate the presence of SUVs from an ecological perspective,” he appreciates.

But at the same time, it only adds norms which remove degrees of freedom.

»

And if he thinks as a business manager who travels in a utility vehicle, his thinking is still different.

“Accessibility in the city is increasingly complicated, parking is practically impossible, partly because of these heavy vehicles.

But I don’t think a surcharge is the solution,” he believes.

Anne Hidalgo declared that this measure “will be presented to the Paris Council in May”.

If passed, the surcharge would come into effect on September 1.
