Farmers in tractors protesting against European and national agricultural and environmental policies and general hardship are to hold a procession with "at least 500" vehicles on Rome's motorway ring road on Friday, one of the groups involved in the protest movement said Tuesday.
"On Friday you will see a procession with tractors on Rome's ring road," said Salvatore Fais, leader of AgriculturalRedemption, which has had tractors converge on a rallying point on Via Nomentana since Monday.
"There is a lot of cooperation from the prefecture and the police headquarters," he added.
"Tomorrow morning we have a new meeting at the policeheadquarters for details, but there is a good chance that our requests will be granted. We expect at least 500 tractors on the ring road," said Fais.
Other groups of protesting farmers have been converging separately on the capital in recent days in readiness for a more general demonstration some time next week.
