Highlights: Since January 20, the thermometer has displayed 4 to 6°C above the seasonal averages across France. In Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales) this weekend, the Catalans were able to observe record heat: 27.5°C. Since January 20, the thermometer has displayed 4 to 6°C above the seasonal averages across France, even though the sky is cloudy over the majority of the territory.

The spring weather in the middle of January is confirmed in the figures published by La Chaîne Météo*.

In Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales) this weekend, the Catalans were able to observe record heat: 27.5°C.

The great mildness present in France is remarkable for its duration and for the maximums reached since January 20.

According to La Chaîne Météo,

“temperatures are daily 4 to 6°C above seasonal averages across France”

.

The day of Wednesday January 24 was the hottest: the national thermal indicator indicated 12.28°C, while the normal is 5°C.

The mildness continues this week, before

“a new peak of mildness expected on Friday”

.

However, the weather is disparate across the territory: the south-eastern third, from the Alps to the edge of the Mediterranean, presents sunny weather, with increased drought as a direct consequence.

Softness is not synonymous with sunny weather: the rest of the territory is mired in

“a misty gray with sometimes a few drizzles”

.

“The nighttime temperatures are positive due to the cloud cover which prevents radiation, even if during the day, under the gray, they plateau with an autumnal feeling

,” explains the meteorological channel.

The snow disappears from the peaks

The heat also affects the melting of snow, and the little powder present above 1800 meters of altitude.

The Pyrenees and the Massif Central are

“completely cleared of snow now”

, but should regain their white peaks

“from Sunday”

.

Temperatures “

will remain 3 to 6°C above seasonal averages until Saturday

”, even if a drop should be effective from this period.
