Agents of the Civil Guard and the Italian Carabinieri Arm have arrested in Otura (Granada, 7,466 inhabitants) Gianluigi Troiano, a trusted man and right-hand man of Marco Raduano, the head of the Societá Forggiana,
known as the fourth Italian mafia, in a classification led by the Sicilian Cosa Nostra, the Neapolitan Camorra and the Calabrian 'Ndragheta.
Troiano, who had lived in Granada for a year and a half, was arrested after leaving to pick up a package at the Otura Post Office, about 13 kilometers from the provincial capital.
A few hours after the arrest of this man, accused of drug trafficking, mafia ties and investigated for two homicides, his boss was arrested on the island of Corsica (France).
The Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, has considered the capture of both “another hard blow to the underworld.”
Both arrests, which occurred on January 30, but were disclosed this Tuesday in Spain, have been widely celebrated in Italy.
The Bari deputy prosecutor responsible for the fight against the mafia, Roberto Rossi, has declared that the arrests are a great success because, in addition, “they put an end to the idea of invincibility of mafia members, an idea that was spreading on social networks ”.
Mafioso Troiano escaped while he was under house arrest, with electronic surveillance, on December 11, 2021, according to the Italian press.
He is accused of drug trafficking and membership in a criminal gang, in addition to being investigated in at least one murder case.
He was serving a sentence of nine years and two months at that time.
Troiano, 30 years old, escaped from his house in Campomarino, in the province of Campobasso, that day and, some time later, arrived in Granada.

The Società Foggiana is based in Gargano, a territory in the southeast of Italy, in the province of Foggia and the region of Puglia, and its networks

and extend throughout much of the province and even beyond it.
Its boss, Marco Raduano, 40, was in the Badu e Carros maximum security prison, in Nuoro (Italy), on February 24, serving a 19-year prison sentence, when he escaped from his cell by sliding down a rope of sheets knotted together.
Raduano had been detained in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria) in November 2019 in Operation Neve in March based on a European Arrest and Surrender Order, as has also been the procedure in the case now of his trusted man.
Both Troiano and Raduano are on the list of the most wanted and most dangerous men in Italy.
The Società Foggiana and the territory where it is established have experienced a considerable episode of violence from 2015 to 2022 after declaring a war with a rival mafia clan that, according to the Italian press, has caused at least 10 deaths.
Troiano is being investigated for at least one of them, the death of Omar Trotta, murdered in his restaurant in July 2017 in that fight between clans.
After his arrest, Gianluigi Troiano has been transferred to the Albolote prison in Granada, where he awaits extradition, which is already being processed in the Central Court of Instruction Number 5 of the National Court.
