This surprises pedestrians and calls for clarification.
Dorfen - How the dirty broth in the sewer system becomes clean water again is an important, if unsavory, topic, but one that is definitely worth taking a closer look at.
Maybe that's why there is a bench in front of the municipal sewage treatment plant in Dorfen that is intended to invite you to linger.
However, the focus is directly on the primary clarification tank: Here the fine organic substances are removed from the wastewater, feces or paper settle or float on the surface - a lot of grubby foam that spins tenaciously in the sewage treatment plant.
You are there live when the faeces turn into gold, so to speak, in biological and chemical processes - after all, drinking water has now become a valuable commodity in many regions.
Anyone who takes a closer look at the plant, which was built in 1974, knows that the capacity of the Dorfen sewage treatment plant is no longer sufficient.
The city is growing, so the sewage treatment plant has to get bigger too.
Planning for the expansion is underway and costs are rising.
There are now 13.37 million euros pending.
Construction is scheduled to begin this spring.
Then there is even more to see from this position when heavy construction equipment drives along the path to the flour mill and people work here.
If you turned the bench 180 degrees, you would see the Isen and the meadows behind it.
Even then, the length of stay wouldn't be longer because it stinks to high heaven here.
Even dogs that do their rounds with their owners on the Isenauen avoid the place.
“That’s a prank from the Schildbürgers!” says Marion Hofmann from Obertaufkirchen.
This calls for clarification, because in the city of Hemadlenzn nothing happens without meaning and purpose, even if this location doesn't seem like the optimal seating position even to locals at first glance.
“The bench can only be located here, it is urban property,” explains building site manager Christian Salzeder when asked.
The areas to the left and right of it are in private hands.
In addition, all benches in the city face south.
“When the sun shines in spring, it gets pleasantly warm on the benches in the city.” This is also the case on this bench, right in front of the sewage treatment plant, which feels like it has always been there, says Salzeder.
