The Catholic kindergarten at Bergfeld in Poing will be closed at the end of the current kindergarten year.

It will be merged with the Catholic kindergarten on Endbachweg.

For many reasons.

Poing - 30 years after its opening (in December 1993), the Catholic kindergarten at Bergfeld (next to the Father Rupert Mayer parish home) will be closed at the end of the daycare year.

From September 1st, the operation will be merged with the second Catholic kindergarten on Endbachweg.

“In view of the high investment costs that the structural situation of the Bergfeld kindergarten would require and the shortage of skilled workers in the daycare sector, the St. Michael Church Foundation, as the sponsor of the two kindergartens, has decided to take this step in order to continue to provide parents and their children with the best possible experience "To be able to offer educational offerings with good staffing levels and more full-time employees under one roof," says Poing's pastor Philipp Werner.

The merger is taking place in close consultation with the municipality of Poing and the specialist departments of the Archbishop's Ordinariate.

Poing: Several reasons for closure and merger

There are currently 48 girls and boys attending the three-group kindergarten at Bergfeld, 26 of whom are preschool children who will move to primary school as first graders in September, says Werner.

All other remaining children could be offered a place in the kindergarten on Endbachweg.

According to the priest, this is currently half full.

It is aimed at four groups with a total of around 100 places.

Whether and how many parents will move their child from Poing-Nord to the more distant facility in Poing-Süd will become clear at the end of February when the registration phase for all daycare centers in Poing is completed.

Community: The need for daycare places is increasing

According to the population forecast, the need for kindergarten places in Poing will increase from the 2024/25 daycare year.

Mayor Thomas Stark told our newspaper when asked.

Depending on the height of the increase, the required places could be absorbed after the Catholic kindergarten at Bergfeld is no longer available or, in the upper variant, could be covered by converting variable after-school or crèche places.

“There has already been general coordination on this with the Poinger authorities and the school management,” reports Stark.

Without the kindergarten at Bergfeld, according to the mayor, a total of 1,098 need-recognized childcare places will be available for children aged three and over from September 1st.

Reliable figures as to how many children need a childcare place could only be given after the registration process.

The kindergarten building at Bergfeld belongs to the church, which has leased the property from the municipality of Poing.

It is unclear what will happen to the empty building after the move out.

“There are currently no concrete plans for any possible use of the building,” said Mayor Thomas Stark.

In the long term, the municipality plans to build a new daycare center in the Lerchenwinkel development area.

However, according to Stark, this is not taken into account in the financial planning up to and including 2027.

The population forecast, which according to the mayor is currently being updated, will provide information about when and what the need for this will be.

At an information evening last week, Pastor Philipp Werner informed the parents about the decision and merger.

Some of them reacted with shock, report the 1st and 2nd chairmen of the parents' council, Sabrina Krause and Daniela Mutter.

“Nobody expected the store to close,” they say.

They hope that there will be more detailed information from the provider in the next few days and weeks, especially regarding opening/closing times, which are different in both facilities.

The Bergfeld kindergarten is open Monday to Thursday from 6:50 a.m. to 4:20 p.m., Friday from 6:50 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.

The one on Endbachweg Monday to Friday from 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Even though the new building on Endbachweg with a large garden is attractive, working parents in particular hope that the opening hours there will be extended.

Poing: Parents hope to expand opening hours

In a press release sent out on Tuesday, Pastor Philipp Werner explains the reasons for the closure of the Bergfeld kindergarten: “The structural condition would require a short-term investment volume of around 300,000 euros if it continued to operate.

In addition, there are declining occupancy figures coupled with high fixed, operating and maintenance costs and recurring problems with filling new positions due to the shortage of skilled workers." With the merger, "good synergy effects could be achieved in personnel, organizational and financial terms and childcare under Catholic sponsorship in Poing with sharpened Profile can be saved”.

The employees of the Bergfeld kindergarten would be offered jobs on Endbachweg and in other facilities of the Poing-Anzing-Forstinning daycare network.
