The popular Dachau master butcher Matthias Ottilinger has died at the age of 87.

He leaves a big gap in many areas.

Dachau - “His work and his faith shaped him” - this is how Monika Ottillinger remembers her father Matthias, who, at the age of 87, closed his eyes forever with his family.

The Ottillinger butcher's shop has been a household name among Dachau residents since 1965.

After his apprenticeship, Matthias Ottillinger went via Pasing, Schönbrunn, Augsburg and Odelzhausen to Dachau.

“Our father wanted to build his own existence,” explains daughter Monika.

Her parents Sophie and Matthias founded a butcher shop in Dachau-Ost.

The butcher's shop is still an institution in Dachau today under his son Peter.

“Our mom gave him so much strength and support,” emphasize the children of the deceased, who had to bury his wife Sophie in 2017.

16-hour days were not uncommon, but Sunday was sacred to the practicing Catholic.

After church we ate and the family was together.

Matthias Ottillinger was allowed to die the way he wanted: at home and with his family.

After an operation in December, Matthias Ottillinger suffered a stroke and was then dependent on help.

His children Peter, Renate, Monika and Thomas as well as his grandchildren Anna, Olivia and Katrin, who followed in Grandpa's footsteps and became a master butcher, lovingly looked after him until the end.

Thanks to the support of his family, he was also able to attend the church service in Heilig Kreuz, which he attended every Sunday, in a wheelchair until shortly before his death.

“He was very rooted in Holy Cross,” is how his children describe it.

Matthias Ottillinger also found strength in the forest, which he managed himself until last autumn, and at his pond on his parents' farm in Irchenbrunn near Altomünster, which his daughter Renate has taken over.

Matthias Ottillinger handed the butcher shop over to his son Peter in 2000.

Nevertheless, he was often seen in the shop.

And also in his parish.

The parish and the church were close to his heart

Since joining in 1965, he has also regularly supported the parish with donations of money and goods, which he never spoke about.

He was active in church administration for decades.

He not only supported the construction of the new organ financially, but even led negotiations with the organ builder to negotiate the best price for the church.

Matthias Ottillinger leaves a big gap in many areas.

His friendly nature, his generosity, his hard work and his strength will be remembered.
