The incident began in the morning hours of 1/18/24, when a report was received at the 100 hotline of the Israel Police about a fire in a residential building at 142 Dizingoff St. in Tel Aviv, and a large force of police was rushed to the scene and found the body of a woman with stab marks in the burned apartment.
HILP investigators along with other police officers from the Tel Aviv district began investigative operations, including gathering evidence, collecting documents and extensive searches for a suspect who fled the scene.
The investigation was assigned to the Yarkon Police Department and already at the beginning it was suspected that the apartment was set on fire after the victim was murdered at the scene of the incident.

The rapid activity of the investigative team led to locating the details of a suspect, a 34-year-old Tel Aviv resident who fled the scene. Using technological means, the investigators were able to trace his steps within a few hours, while he was trying to escape and obscure evidence. Even on the day of the murder, his location was located, when he was on the run on his way to Bus towards Jerusalem. As suspected, during the investigation it became clear that Margoshin had a prior and intimate acquaintance with the victim and had spoken with her several times before.
Large forces from the Lev Tel Aviv police and Merhav Zion police were prepared to arrest him at Jerusalem's central station.
The police recognized Margoshin and went to check on him.
After he noticed them, the suspect attacked them with a drawn knife and tried to stab them, and they fired at him, which neutralized him on the spot.
Margoshin was seriously injured and was referred for medical treatment.
As the investigation progressed, his condition stabilized and his detention was extended from time to time at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on suspicion of brutal murder and other crimes.
