But the Bavarian region has many more great places to offer.

3 / 10The Devil's Cave Pottenstein is known beyond the borders of Franconian Switzerland.
“The entrance to the Devil's Cave is a huge rock grotto, one of the largest in Germany,” says the website fraenkische-schweiz.com.
There are numerous stalactites to see in the cave, and even the skeleton of a cave bear is on display.

5 / 10If you are interested in castles and palaces, you can pay a visit to Gößweinstein Castle (Forchheim district).
Holidaymakers can fortify themselves, for example, in the panoramic beer garden.
“From the castle you can visit the most beautiful viewpoints around Gößweinstein on the Balthasar-Neumann circular hiking trail.
A beautiful, short (3.6 km) path on which you always get enchanting views of the Gößweinstein castle and basilica,” says the website fraenkische-schweiz.com.

6 / 10The medieval Egloffstein Castle is located in the town of the same name in the Forchheim district.
It “is one of the landmarks of romantic Franconian Switzerland and lies in the middle of one of the most diverse and attractive recreational areas in Germany,” says the castle’s website.

7 / 10The Fantaisie Palace in Bayreuth is also worth seeing.
Construction work began in the 18th century, and a late baroque garden was also created at that time.
“Fantaisie Castle has been home to Germany’s first garden art museum since 2000.
The history of garden art from the 17th to the 19th century is clearly presented here using numerous and valuable exhibits,” it says on the homepage of the Bavarian Palace Administration.

As the Bavarian palace administration writes, Margravine Wilhelmine characterized the rock garden in a letter to her brother, Frederick the Great, with the words: “Nature itself was the master builder.” © IMAGO / imagebroker

10 / 10“When the Franconians talk about their mountain, they popularly talk about the 'Walberla', the striking table mountain east of Forchheim.
The correct name of the mountain massif is 'Ehrenbürg',” informs the website walberla.de.
From here you have a view of the Regnitz, Ehrenbach and Wiesent valleys.
According to the website, Walberla is therefore also referred to as the “Gateway to Franconian Switzerland”.
