The name Peter Richter is well known to many ice hockey fans in the region.
The 40-year-old played for the Starbulls Rosenheim and made a name for himself as the long-time captain of the “Löwen” at EHC Waldkraiburg.
Now the former defensive player is dead - he had an accident while skiing.
Waldkraiburg/Rosenheim –
“We cannot put into words how incredibly sad we are,” said
EHC Waldkraiburg
in a post on social media at the weekend.
The reason for the emotional statement: The long-time captain of the “Löwen”,
Peter Richter
, is dead. He had an accident while skiing in North America, reports rosenheim24.de.
The 40-year-old was captain of EHC Waldkraiburg for years and an identification figure for the club.
In a Facebook post, those responsible for the Lions also described him as “
THE face of Waldkraiburg ice hockey
in the recent past”.
But Richter didn't just make a name for himself in Waldkraiburg; the Rosenheim native began his career with the
Starbulls
.
In the 2000/2001 season, the defensive man played in the DNL, in the following season he laced up his skates at Mangfall in the national league - only then did he move to the EHC, where he ended his ice hockey career eleven seasons later.
Peter Richter was on the ice for the Waldkraiburger Löwen
over 600 times
and was a role model for fans and young players.

On the last match day in the national ice hockey league at
ESV Waldkirchen,
the team from the industrial city wore mourning ribbons, and current captain
Nico Vogl
also did without the “C” on his jersey.
During the game, which ultimately ended 7-6 after extra time from the Lions' perspective, "Peter Richter" chants repeatedly echoed through the stadium.
“A lot of love and respect goes out to the boys and
coach Jürgen Lederer
, who put their hearts on the ice for Peter under these circumstances,” it said on social media in this context.
