A rumor is wafting through the small community of Emmering; it is so persistent that most people expect the worst: divorce!

- Many contemporaries will still remember the dream wedding when, on March 2, 2014, “Bay-Grispal Dofe, Fleischdantler vo da Bruckhofer Schebabixn” met his sweetheart “Alexandria eiskoide Schuierin, Boandlkramerin von da Hirschau” on the most beautiful dung heap far and wide wife took.

The love seemed limitless, but it now seems to have grown cold.

Huge pile of dung has already been ordered

“In order to be prepared for the worst, we are already planning a possible divorce on November 11th, 2024 - just in time for the start of the coming carnival season,” says Martin Demmel from the Bettelhochzeit association, which organizes the spectacle every eleven years and hopes that it will be successful the next wedding on Carnival Sunday March 2nd, 2025 will once again find a dream couple.

“In any case, we have already ordered a huge pile of manure,” says Demmel with a wink.

Planning for 2025 is in full swing

Ten years ago, thousands of carnival enthusiasts made a pilgrimage to Emmering to be witnesses when “Alexandria” and “Dofe” got married on the steaming dung heap.

Those responsible for the begging wedding are expecting a similarly large crowd next year, after all, begging weddings have become really rare in the region.

Planning for the major event has been going on since June 2022, when the new Bettelhochzeiter board took over the reins.
