From 1 January 2023 the regulation on environmental labeling came into force in Italy.

A rule, which is also a goal for the Planet and which is bringing changes in all fields.

Including that of beauty, with a series of consequent innovations for cosmetic companies.

In fact, according to what is currently provided for by paragraph 5 of article 219 of Legislative Decree 152/2006, it has become mandatory to report two types of information: 1) identification and classification of the packaging, through the indication of the nature of the packaging materials used;

2) information to consumers on the final management of packaging, once emptied of its contents, to facilitate collection, reuse, recovery and recycling of packaging at the end of its life.

Cosmetica Italia, alongside Conai, actively participated in the entire regulatory process.

And it also continues to support companies in correctly adapting to the new regulations and in promoting complete knowledge of the sector's commitment on this issue.

In particular, the Association has developed a specific area of its institutional website with the function of an official collector to facilitate the consumer in searching and consulting information relating to the correct disposal of cosmetic packaging.

This section contains information on environmental labeling and also includes references to the materials on the subject created by individual companies with the aim of promoting consultation.

The fundamental condition remains that the information is easily available to the consumer.

Sustainability is a priority issue for the cosmetics industry, underlines Cosmetica Italia: it has an impact both on the design and creation of products and on the definition of production processes.

For this reason, the cosmetics sector works in synergy with bodies and institutions, constantly investing in the design of sustainable packaging solutions.

Hence also the collaboration with the National Packaging Consortium, without prejudice to the fact that environmental protection remains a direct link with consumers, a fundamental link in the virtuous chain towards the correct disposal of used cosmetic packaging and the closure of the circular chain of life of the product.
