There could be a surprising turnaround in the Wirecard trial: Oliver Bellenhaus is about to be released.
His former boss Markus Braun remains in custody.
Munich – Oliver Bellenhaus, the main prosecution witness and defendant in the Wirecard trial, is to be released from custody under certain conditions after more than three and a half years.
This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Munich I Regional Court.
Bellenhaus, who has been in the dock for more than a year, is engaged in a battle of interpretation with his former superior Markus Braun about the economic scandal.
Braun remains in custody.
There is a possibility that Bellenhaus will be released this Tuesday.
Negotiations in the trial will continue on Wednesday and Thursday.
Bellenhaus must therefore hand in his passport, is not allowed to leave Germany and must report regularly to the authorities.
According to reports, he does not have to pay a deposit.
Bellenhaus' lawyers recently filed an application for release from prison.
They justified this, among other things, with Bellenhaus' confession and his investigative work in the billion-dollar fraud scandal.
