A group of researchers, who work in the scientific institutes of Trieste, met citizens today in the historic San Marco café, as part of an initiative promoted by the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics.

In the event, "A coffee with researchers", they told the public about their experience, in a series of individual conversations, also explaining the role they hold and the research field in which they are engaged.


    For example, there is the story of Elena Longo, researcher at the Syrmep line of the Elettra Synchrotron.

Originally from Calabria, "I have been in Trieste since 2021 - she explains - after a journey in various international structures. I was at the German Sincrotrone until the opportunity came to return to Italy and Trieste was the ideal destination. I am proud to work here, in such a context international".


    Laura De Santis, a researcher in the geophysics section of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics Ogs, was born in the Marche region, "in Trieste since 1991 - she recalls - and after a short period in the United States I returned. I think there is an international environment in the city , at the forefront in many aspects. And above all, even if everyone has their own area of ​​expertise, it's teamwork, we're all going in the same direction and this gives an edge to what everyone does."


    Asja Jelic comes from Serbia, researcher in the condensed matter and statistical physics section of the ICTP: "After Belgrade, I worked in Switzerland, with some stops also in Paris and Rome, until I came to Trieste, in 2014, where I found a very lively, also due to the presence of many research institutes. Occasions like today's - he concludes - are useful for telling people what we do every day".
