AGENDA - After four years of absence, the Swiss motor show is trying to reconnect with its history in a modified format.

It is an understatement to say that car shows, these great masses which rocked the childhood of our grandparents and our parents, are no longer popular.

The withdrawal movement had begun well before the health crisis.

Covid finished them off.

Certainly, here and there, a few brave people have tried to rekindle the flame but for the moment the rebirths are taking place at a minimum.

The Munich show replaced the Frankfurt show in a new format.

Instead of attracting the public to the outskirts of the city at the exhibition center, the Bavarian event decided to reach out to them by creating an exhibition area in the heart of the city.

Alternating with the German event, the Paris World Cup returns for the second time to the Porte de Versailles next October (October 14 to 20).

He is expected around the corner.

The 2022 edition did not leave a great memory due to the absence of a large number of leading manufacturers.

Renault R5 Electric.

As for the one in Geneva, the favorite according to all the actors and visitors because of its conviviality and its human scale, it is healing its wounds.

Canceled at the last minute in 2020 - the exhibitors were in the process of setting up the stands - due to the containment measures taken by a large part of the world, the Swiss show is struggling to get back on track.

Although it relocated to Qatar at the end of 2023, the organizers were keen to continue the story on the shores of Lake Geneva.

This is how the 91st edition will take place in Geneva from February 27 to March 3.

But it is not yet this year that the event will regain its former glory, mainly due to a lack of builders.

Faithful to its communication, the Renault group is the only one among historical players to maintain its participation in all major trade shows.

It has therefore chosen Geneva to unveil its R5 Electric which is undoubtedly its major event of the year 2024. The French manufacturer will share the poster with a battalion of Chinese manufacturers.

MG has therefore chosen the Swiss show to unveil the MG3, a hybrid city car launched in Europe during the year 2024. The event will also serve as a launching pad for the Cyberster roadster that visitors to the Rétromobile show were able to discover last week at the Porte de Versailles.

In Geneva, the absence of German brands but also of the Stellantis group leaves the field open to new Asian brands, BYD and Lucid in the lead.

Thematic areas

To enhance the tour, the Geneva organizers will offer four thematic zones.

The first, called the “Adrenaline Zone”, will be dedicated to exceptional cars, supercars and racing cars.

The second will highlight design around Frank Stephenson.

The third “Mobility Lab” space will take visitors into the future through the presentation of technological innovations that will revolutionize individual mobility.

It will also be an opportunity to travel back in time with an exhibition recounting the major developments made in the field of security over the past hundred years.

Other entertainment: the exhibition of vehicles which made their first public appearance in Geneva.

This is how we can discover the Jaguar Type E registered 9600 HP exhibited here in 1961 or the Porsche 901 from 1964. Around 35 models should be presented.

Finally, the press day will be marked by the revelation of the Car of the Year 2024. The seven finalists in the running are the BMW 5 Series, the BYD Seal, the Kia EV9, the Peugeot 3008, the Renault Scenic Electric, the Volvo EX30 and the Toyota C-HR.
