This is a very good catch that investigators from the narcotics brigade of the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Security made in Nice, during the night from Sunday to Monday.

At the end of an investigation lasting several months relating to the opening of a judicial investigation last October, they discovered 250 kilos of cannabis on board a truck which was traveling north of the Riviera capital.

Information from BFM Côte d'Azur confirmed Tuesday to Le

Figaro

from a source close to the investigation.

The drugs were hidden in a specially designed cache on board the heavy goods vehicle.

Its driver was immediately arrested and placed in police custody.

His hearing was still in progress Tuesday at midday.

Investigators now need to trace the network and its ramifications - Riviera and elsewhere - with the aim of dismantling a network which could be sprawling given the quantity of cannabis discovered in a single truck.

The investigations are therefore far from over.

306 kilos of drugs seized last October

Already on October 11, Nice police officers seized 306 kilos of drugs in a truck at the La Turbie toll booth, near Monaco, on the A8 motorway towards Italy.

Two months later, Departmental Security agents dismantled a very prolific deal point in the sensitive Liserons district, east of Nice, on December 5.

500,000 euros were seized, 187 kilos of cannabis and nearly two kilos of cocaine.

As well as several handguns and a shotgun.
