The Breitbrunn Volunteer Fire Department looks back on a successful year with many highlights.

Breitbrunn

- Stefan Feigl is still under the impression of the anniversary year 2023. At the annual meeting last Friday, the board of the Breitbrunn volunteer fire department proudly looked back on the 150th anniversary celebration that Breitbrunn had organized together with the neighboring Herrsching fire department (we reported) .

“We gave it our all to make it our year,” he said.

Starting with firecrackers and a brass band at 16 degrees Celsius and with more than 400 visitors grilling on the steamer pier in January.

“We asked,” but with wind speeds of 80 kilometers per hour, the brass band and firecrackers politely declined for a repeat this year, he says with a laugh.

Still overwhelmed by the celebrations from the previous year, Feigl found “that it is good for a place to celebrate festivals like this.

You saw what the fire department means for the place.” At the meeting on Friday, Feigl only found superlatives to describe the festival year: “Gigantic.”

The highlight was the festival weekend in Herrsching, followed by the parade in Breitbrunn.

“A fantastic procession,” praised Mayor Christian Schiller in his welcoming speech.

“Some people asked themselves why weeks of advance planning were necessary when it could all be done within 30 minutes,” said Feigl and had to laugh.

He was referring to the capricious weather that had initially caused problems for the people of Breitbrunner on the festival Sunday.

“The sun came out with the Bavarian anthem,” and everything got better and better, even if the procession had to start backwards from the Holy Spirit Church instead of from the festival meadow on the Dampfersteg.

“The whole plan was thrown out of whack.” The Breitbrunners proved to be flexible.

The day was crowned with a surprise for the long-time board member Thomas Bader, whom the Breitbrunners appointed honorary board member.

He was a board member for 18 years and last year he was with the fire department for 40 years.

The festival Sunday became his day of honor.

Commander Florian Kleber also spoke of a “landmark – intensive, also busy.

But it was a lot of fun, every single encounter.” This enthusiasm seems to be contagious, especially in youth work.

Last year there were five transfers to the adult ranks, but also other new additions - nine in total.

The youngest newcomer to the youth fire department, Rebecca Sedlmeier (12), couldn't wait for her twelfth birthday, said Kleber happily.

He was able to greet them personally at the annual meeting.

The youth group now has a total of eight members, the adults 54. “That’s a lot, and that’s a good thing.”

Kleber remembered when he started in 2012, “almost all of them are still there.”

We can build on that.

And because youth work works so well, young people with their youth director Torsten Tartler are now allowed to expand their youth room as they want, “it’s just for you”.

Little by little, all the rooms in the converted Böckhaus in Breitbrunn, into which the fire department has moved and which has since also housed the community hall, will soon be completed.

A sports room for the fitness of those active is still being planned.

For their 25th service anniversary, Kleber, together with mayors Schiler and Christina Reich, honored board member Feigl and youth officer Tartler.

Lambert Rutz, who has been active for ten years, and Bastian Lemberger, who has been there for 20 years, had to cancel the meeting and were honored in absentia.

There were also a few promotions: Simon Hübler (firefighter), Franziska Müller (firefighter), Anna Stiller (firefighter), Benjamin von Perger (senior firefighter), Sebastian Lemberger (group leader and Magdalena Steger (firefighter candidate).
