Jetty builders rescue water sports enthusiasts from 5 degree cold Ammersee.
Herrsching
- jetty builders, captains and now also life savers - the jetty builders from the Ammersee lake shipping company fished a kitesurfer in distress out of the Ammersee around 1 p.m. yesterday.
The five men were returning from lunch when they heard shouts from the lake.
Passers-by on the Herrschinger waterfront had also heard these calls and called the emergency number, while the jetty builders had already jumped onto their work boat and rushed to the person who had called about 300 or 400 meters from the bank.
It was a kite surfer, says one of the shipyard employees from Stegen.
“The wind has run out,” said the employee.
He and his colleagues got the man on board and brought him to the safety of shore.
“He had probably been in the water for 30 minutes.” Back on the bank, the fire brigade and ambulance were already waiting to take care of the hypothermic kite surfer.
The alerted Utting water rescue service, which was already on its way to Herrschinger Bay, was able to turn away again.
In the summer, the employees of the shipyard in Stegen control the steamers of the Ammersee fleet across the lake as captains.
Each of them has a background in craftsmanship, which is necessary in the shipyard in winter, but also on the jetties.
In Herrsching, the storm damage to the steam jetty is currently being repaired.
Yesterday they also became rescuers.
Because the current water temperature is five degrees, it can quickly become dangerously cold, even in a thick wetsuit.
