Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter has put the bicycle-friendly conversion of Lindwurmstrasse on hold.

Neighborhood politicians are horrified and expect massive protests.

Wider sidewalks, new cycle paths – a renovation should have made Lindwurmstrasse much more attractive for weaker road users.

But nothing will come of it for the time being.

Because Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter put the renovation on hold for a short time.

Much to the displeasure of local politicians.

The members of the Green parliamentary group in particular are horrified by Reiter's decision.

Through traffic should continue to flow undisturbed

The plans that the mobility department had already presented were stopped after a few business associations were interviewed at a round table.

Instead of a “resident-friendly design”, as the responsible district committee (BA) Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt puts it, through traffic should instead continue to flow undisturbed.

There will also be no marking of a cycle lane in 2024.

The Greens describe the decision as unacceptable

“It is unacceptable that the sensible redistribution of traffic space on this very street was stopped by a stroke,” complains Claudia Lowitz (Greens), chairwoman of the BA’s mobility subcommittee.

BA boss Benoit Blaser (Greens) adds: “The fact that the renovation is stopped at short notice contradicts the wishes of the residents.” The district politicians are now expecting massive protests from the Radentscheid alliance against the renovation stop.
