Worrying: The Au secondary school is seeing an increasing number of young people with psychological problems.
A measure should now be taken to counteract this.
Au/Hallertau
– Now the time has come at the Abenstal-Realschule in Au in der Hallertau: Due to increasing problems, the district has applied to create a position for youth social work at schools (JaS).
The Youth Welfare Committee unanimously follows the administration's application and suggestion.
Teachers need support
The secondary school is currently attended by 385 students, divided into 17 classes.
The number of students is expected to reach 433 by 2028.
The school has to face various challenges in everyday school life, it said in the factual report on this agenda item.
For several years now, the school has seen a significant increase in the number of students showing psychological problems.
The challenges look very different: cases of fear of school, school absenteeism and school refusal would increase.
In addition, more and more children and young people are showing symptoms such as panic attacks, mutism or dissociative personality disorders.
Cyber bullying is also becoming a problem
This requires considerably more attention than the teaching staff can provide, according to the justification for the application.
The same applies to cases of neurodiversity, such as ADHD or autism spectrum disorders.
According to the school management, bullying and cyberbullying are also a problem area at the school that a youth social worker could counteract preventively.
Because: Youth social work in schools offers the opportunity to address the entirety of the problems and also to work through various prevention offers.
Based on the circumstances described, the district administration saw a need for youth social work at the Abenstal-Realschule and suggested the creation of a part-time position (60 percent of a full-time position).
The personnel costs amount to 36,000 euros, the state funding amounts to 9,816 euros annually.
The members of the committee followed the administration's suggestion - without discussion, a request to speak or a dissenting vote.
