The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety authorized with a decree dated 31 January 2024 the construction of the Adriatic Link, Terna's submarine power line that will connect the Marche and Abruzzo.
The ministry announced this in a statement.
The work is included among the interventions envisaged by the Pniec.
The electrical connection will consist of two submarine cables of approximately 210 km, laid at a maximum depth of 100 metres, and two terrestrial cables of 40 km.
The conversion stations will be built near the existing electricity stations of Cepagatti (Pescara), in Abruzzo, and Fano (PesaroUrbino), in the Marche.
The connection will make it possible to increase the exchange capacity between the Central-Southern and Central-Northern areas of the country by approximately 1,000 MW, enabling the integration and transfer of the energy produced by the wind and photovoltaic plants of the South towards the consumption centers of the North.
For Minister Gilberto Pichetto "with the ministerial authorization of the Adriatic Link, another step is taken in the path undertaken by the State with Terna to achieve the Euro-unit objectives of decarbonisation of the Italian energy system, in line with the objectives outlined by the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan".
"We are very satisfied with the green light for the Adriatic Link, one of the fundamental works of Terna's ten-year development plan - declared Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and general manager of Terna -. The infrastructure, in which we will invest around 1.3 billion of euros, will increase the security and resilience of the national electricity transmission network, confirming Italy's role as a European and Mediterranean energy hub".
