"The auctions went well, because they were characterized by great participation and competition between operators which translates into advantages for users. Another important step has therefore been taken towards the liberalization of the last segment of the electricity market, that of domestic customers. essential good at a reasonable price: this is what consumers expect, and this is what we are building, through a clear and transparent path, which places us among the most advanced countries in Europe".

The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, said this in a note.

The Ministry specifies that 7 operators were awarded the 26 lots into which the country was divided, to award the "gradual protection service" which from July will replace the greater protection service.

Customers will be able to benefit from a lower price than the protected one, for an average of around 73 euros gross per year.

For three years, from July 2024 to July 2027, non-vulnerable domestic customers will be able to obtain supplies from the winner of the relevant lot at the price set at the auction, without prejudice to the possibility of switching to the free market at any time.

Customers who fall within the vulnerability criteria (low income, over 75 years of age, sick, in disadvantaged areas) will for the moment remain in the greater protection supply regime, waiting for the auctions to be held shortly to identify the operators who will apply to them conditions set by Arera.

"Although it has different characteristics - adds Pichetto - we are certain that the tender for vulnerable customers will also have an equally positive outcome".

The minister specified that "we are paying close attention to the construction of an information campaign, with which the institutions can transmit the right message of trust: first of all for citizens, but also towards market operators, so that in a context of full and correct competition they can offer an important service to the country in terms of innovation and services".
