The "G. Caprin" school in Trieste won the honorable mention in the competition for schools on "10 February - Remembrance Day" and in the next few days it will be awarded at the Quirinale by the President of the Republic Mattarella.

This was announced by the Headmaster MauroDellore for whom "the students did an excellent job, useful for making the history of our lands known.

An activity literally carried out 'in the field', here in Valmaura where one of the first fields was set up at the Risiera reception for the Istrian exiles and where several families subsequently settled in the area".

For many young people, the exodus is also the memory of their families of origin.

The school participated with some students in the 14th national competition "10 February", entitled "A world and a past. Stories from the places of origin of the Julian-Fiumano-Dalmatian exiles", announced by the Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Association of Exiles from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia, open to schools of all levels.

A student chosen from among those who participated in the activity and their teacher will leave for Rome these days to collect the prize.

The content of the work is still confidential but it was learned that the students interviewed an Istrian exile from Novigrad who has lived in Trieste since he was six years old and were thus able to learn about daily life in Istria, the customs of free time, the secular and religious traditions that were practice.

They better understood the trauma of the exodus and social integration in Trieste.
