In Schongau, a large garden shed caught fire early in the morning.

The fire brigade can just about prevent the fire from spreading to the house.

An attentive newspaper delivery person had alerted them.

Schongau - Schongau's fire brigade commander Werner Berchtold immediately makes his decision.

“That was a last-minute rescue.” If he and his comrades had arrived at the scene of the accident on Lerchenstrasse just a little later early on Tuesday morning, it would probably not have been possible to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential building there.

“The house would have burned down.”

According to Berchtold, the fact that the Schongau fire department was on site in time to prevent the worst was thanks to a newspaper delivery person.

Around 5:30 a.m. on his morning tour, he noticed trash cans on fire on the property and alerted the fire department.

At this point, the fire had already spread to the larger adjacent shed, said Berchtold.

When the 25 emergency services arrived in four vehicles, quick action was required.

“Two windows in the house had already burst and the living room was already filled with smoke,” says Berchtold, describing the seriousness of the situation.

The firefighters immediately began extinguishing the garden shed, which was now fully ablaze, and were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential building.

The operation was made more difficult by the fact that large quantities of petrol as well as gas bottles and a motorcycle were stored in the annex.

“That accelerated the fire,” said the commander.

By joining forces, the firefighters finally brought the fire under control.

The operation was over after three hours.

The residents of the house were lucky in misfortune.

According to Berchtold, they were able to leave the building in time and were uninjured.

It is still unclear how the fire could have started.

The criminal police took over the investigation into the cause of the fire that morning.
