According to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, this was recognized early on.
The news shocked and saddened him like everyone else, Sunak told the BBC.
“And all our thoughts are with him and his family.

What is known about diagnosis
The palace announced on Monday evening that Charles (75) was being treated for cancer.
The disease was discovered when he was in hospital for prostate surgery.
The royal family did not say what form of cancer Charles has.
All that is known is that it is not prostate cancer.
On medical advice, the king is refraining from public appointments for the time being, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
But he should continue the affairs of state.
Charles is to be treated as an outpatient.
Charles' reign began with the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
In May 2023, Charles was crowned.
According to the palace, Charles is confident about his treatment and looks forward to “returning fully to his public duties as soon as possible.”
Wishes for recovery from several countries
After learning of his diagnosis, he received many well wishes.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that his thoughts were with the monarch.
“We send him our best wishes - and hope for a quick and full recovery.” Charles is also head of state in Canada.
US President Joe Biden, whose son Beau died of cancer, also expressed his condolences.

Prince Harry is supposed to travel to England
According to information from the German Press Agency, Charles' younger son Prince Harry (39) is also due to travel to Great Britain to meet his father.
Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan (42) broke away from royal duties and live in the USA.

Unlike Charles' daughter-in-law Kate, whose diagnosis remained private, the royal family provided more information about the king's illness.
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to avoid speculation,” the statement said.
He also hopes to promote understanding for other people with cancer.
Charles' older son William (41) had taken a step back because of his wife's operation and had taken more care of the family.
Even before Charles' cancer was announced, it became public that William would now appear in public again after his break.
This Wednesday he is scheduled to host a ceremony at Windsor Castle and take part in a fundraising gala.
