The Dent-de-Vaulion ski area in the canton of Vaud is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
But this year the visitors are staying away.
Because: There is a lack of snow.
Dent-de-Vaulion – The ski season in Switzerland, France and Austria should actually be in full swing right now.
But this is not the case in all ski areas.
Switzerland seems to be hit particularly hard this winter, as
blick.ch
reports.
In some locations where snow is guaranteed, the climate means that the climate is more lush green than a winter wonderland.
Popular ski resort in Switzerland is struggling with a lack of snow: significantly too warm
The reason for this: climate change.
This apparently makes the Swiss ski resorts, which change prices several times a day, sweat a lot.
The best example is probably the popular ski area Dent-De-Vaulion in the Jura Mountains.
According to
Meteo News,
January was significantly too warm.
And despite a few days of ice, not much will likely change in the coming days.
According to the weather forecast, up to 11 degrees is possible.
So the ski area has little hope, but there is at least some small consolation for vacationers and ski tourists.
Because Dent-de-Vaulion is also a popular hiking area.
Which is just a consolation prize, but certainly doesn't leave holidaymakers high and dry in a snowless period.

With its summit at 1,482 meters, the relief of Dent-de-Vaulion gracefully towers over the village of Le Pont.
Its special shape and its location at the end of the Lac de Joux make it a popular photo spot, as the top offers a wonderful 360 degree panoramic view.
In the open air you can admire up to eight different lakes: the lakes of Neuchâtel, Biel and Murten, Lake Geneva, the lakes Lac Brenet and Lac Ter, the Lac de Joux and the Lac de Rousses in neighboring France.
The Alpine chain and the Mont Blanc mountain range complete the view.

Skiing is out of the question.

But it's not just Dent-de-Vaulion that is struggling with the lack of snow.
Even better-known ski areas such as Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland suffer from the warm weather.
Excursions off the piste are especially out of the question, as the area is dominated by lush greenery, similar to Dent-de-Vaulion.
There is only one way out: the slopes must be prepared with artificial snow, similar to Wildhaus in the canton of St. Gallen, in order to ensure normal operation and at least a bit of ski romance.

Snow ticker for Switzerland: Skiers can find out about snow conditions
There, skiers have to walk on gravel paths to the lift and only have a little snow under their feet at the summit, as the
Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ)
reports.
At least you don't have to walk up the mountain like another well-known ski resort.
So that winter sports enthusiasts can be sure whether there is enough snow, Switzerland Tourism, in collaboration with the winter destinations, has set up the Snowticker platform, which is intended to provide information about the slope conditions.
