Germering - “Diversity” was the slogan that around 1,000 students and teachers from the Max-Born-Gymnasium formed on the sports field to set an example for tolerance and democracy and against discrimination.

The idea came from the student body: On the occasion of the nationwide day of action “We are the firewall” on February 3rd, on which meetings were announced in many German cities to demonstrate for an open and liberal society, the student co-responsibility group (SMV) also wanted to do so MBG make a statement.

“Especially in these times it is important to take a stand and stand up for diversity and democracy,” explained student representative Josephine Thomsen (10c).

During the action planned by the SMV and carried out during the break, the school community gathered on the school sports field and formed the word “diversity”.

An aerial photo was taken of this using a drone.

A lot had to be organized in advance, because coordinating more than 1,000 people is not an easy task.

The weather forecast also caused some concern for the students right up until the end.

In the end everything was fine and even the light drizzle didn't affect the event.

When headmaster Thomas Höhenleitner heard about the plans in advance, he was happy to support the SMV's cause, among other things by extending the break by ten minutes.

“Peaceful coexistence in the spirit of democracy can only succeed if we discover the wealth that lies in diversity, be it at school or in society.

I’m really proud of our students for recognizing that and owning up to it.”

School without racism

The MBG has been committed to diversity and against discrimination for years.

For example, there is a “variety” collection of MBG school clothing designed by SMV that can be purchased by students.

The MBG has also been part of the “School without Racism – School with Courage” project for a long time and thus advocates for school life without discrimination and violence.

“It's important to us: We not only print the motto 'We are diversity' on our T-shirts, but we also live it every day at our school,” said student representative Simon Assal (11a) after the campaign, not without a bit of pride.

Further demonstrations in the Fürstenfeldbruck district

People also want to show their colors in the Bruck district.

A broad action alliance from the city of Fürstenfeldbruck, several clubs and parties stands up against right-wing extremism and for democracy.

The “Never again” campaign takes place on the Amperwiese behind the town hall of the Fürstenfeld monastery area.

The participating citizens distribute themselves across the letters of the slogan “Never again” for a light signal.

Helpers on site take over the briefing.

As darkness falls, everyone shines their cell phones or flashlights upwards.

The glowing lettering is then photographed by a drone.
