Simple, fast, practical: electric shavers are number one for many German men.

Did you know that the average 55-year-old man has spent 3,500 hours of his life shaving?

Whether shaving becomes a daily annoyance or a pleasant care ritual depends crucially on the shaving technique.

More and more men like to use the quick, convenient and easy dry shave with an electric razor.

A look at the following fact shows that the quality of the device should meet the highest standards: According to

Pharmacy Umschau,

around 0.1 millimeters of the upper stratum corneum are removed per shave!

Even the gentlest shearing systems injure the skin.

If you put 1 and 1 together, you can calculate how damaging a bad electric shaver can be for sensitive facial skin in the long run!

  • Panasonic ES-LV6Q: Good (1.8) – only €338

  • Philips Series 7000 S7788/55: Good (1.8) – only €189.99

  • Braun Series 7 70-S7200cc: Good (1.9) – €248 instead of €319.99

  • Stiftung Warentest: this is how the electric razors were tested

Stiftung Warentest tested a total of 12 electric shavers and got different results.

Six devices received the grade “good”, three at least “satisfactory”.

One razor received a “satisfactory” rating, two were completely failed with a “poor” rating.

We introduce you to the test winners.

In order to test different models under conditions that were as realistic as possible, the devices were tested on subjects between the ages of 18 and 65 under the supervision of experts.

The durability of the electric razors was mechanically tested in 2,520 cycles in a device that simulated the user's contact pressure while shaving.

The following criteria were proportionally included in the final grade of the tests:

    • Shaving 30%

    • Skin protection 30%

    • Handling 20%

    • Durability 20%

These are the best electric shavers according to Stiftung Warentest

No matter how well an electric shaver performs, no other device creates as smooth skin as a good wet shaver.

However, this is due to the different ways in which wet razors work.

These gently pull the beard hairs out of the skin before cutting them off.

Electric shavers only cut the hair that gets through the shaving foil to the blade.

This means that tiny stubble always remains.

Nevertheless, there are visible and tactile differences here too.

    Tips for optimal results

    Do not shower before

    dry shaving

    !

Otherwise, the water vapor could soften the skin and beard so much that the electric shaver can no longer grasp and cut the beard hair properly.

    The opposite applies to

    wet shaving

: the hair should not only be wet, but also removed from the sebum layer through thorough washing.

In order for the razor blade to make smooth and soft cuts, the hair must be swollen.
