The XXV edition of the MarioFrancese journalistic award goes to ANSA journalist LaraSirignano.

Domenico Iannacone is the winner of the prize named after Giuseppe Francese, son of the Giornaledi Sicilia reporter killed by the mafia who fought to have the investigations into the crime reopened and those responsible for his father's murder convicted.


    Addressing the students present in the audience, Lara Sirignano spoke of the difficulties experienced by those who practice the journalistic profession today, especially in her sector, judicial reporting: "Access to documents is increasingly hindered - said the ANSA reporter, author of the scoop on arrest of the boss Matteo Messina Denaro - Limitations are placed on magistrates but also on journalists, behind the alibi of sacrosanct values, the presumption of innocence, who however do not protect themselves with watered-down information".


    The reasons for the award to Lara Sirignano were disclosed by Franco Nicastro, regional councilor of the Order and member of the French Award commission: "For having interpreted judicial news with a method that combines precision, independence, timeliness and civil commitment".

The award was presented by Roberto Gueli, president of the Sicilian Journalists' Association.


    Domenico Iannacone received the Giuseppe Francese Award, presented by Riccardo Arena, national councilor of the Order of Journalists.

"With a narrative that recovers the best tradition of Italian journalism - the motivation read by the president of the award commission Gaetano Savatteri - enhancing echoes that recall neorealist cinema and Pasolini's investigation, Domenico Iannacone inserts elements of human understanding into social reportage with a special attention to latitudes southern parts of the country".


    "Fight your dream", Iannacone's message to students which talks about journalism experienced as a challenge, recalling the theme of this year's edition of the Award, "Go. See. Tell".

During the event, the French Prize in memory of Andrea Purgatori was also awarded.
