A dispute with the insurance company is causing strange problems in Emmering.

For a year now, visitors to the community center have had to use the toilets in the Amperhalle - and have to walk there in wind and weather.

Emmering - the reason is water damage - and the disagreement about who should be responsible for it.

The toilets in the Emmeringer community center have been broken for almost twelve months.

Since then, event visitors and restaurant guests have had to do their urgent business in the neighboring Amperhalle.

Actually, the mishap that occurred after water damage in the basement should have been repaired long ago.

But the municipality is fighting with the insurance company over who will cover the costs.

And as long as no agreement has been reached, the town hall legal advisor strongly advises against starting the work on your own.

“That would be tantamount to an admission of guilt and the municipality would perhaps be stuck with the costs,” explains Mayor Stefan Floerecke.

Several reviewers

The matter has already occupied several experts.

According to them, the water damage was caused by the defective lifting system.

This was checked regularly by the caretaker, but the insurance company is of the opinion that a specialist company should have been commissioned to do this.

In total, the damage amount is up to 400,000 euros.

Because this is an ongoing process, everyone involved is reluctant to comment.

However, Mayor Floerecke now says that both sides have come closer and expects the matter “to be resolved in the next two months”.

The repairs can then begin immediately.

A craft company has already gotten an idea of the damage and is in the starting blocks, said the mayor.

In wind and weather

Until then, community center visitors will have to use the sanitary facilities in the neighboring Amperhalle.

A short section of the route has to be covered in the open air, whatever the weather.

Floerecke is not aware of any losses in sales in the catering industry or declining room bookings.

“But we will probably have to talk about a rent reduction.”

For the two upcoming major events at the carnival finale in the Amperhalle, the “emergency toilet” on the first floor is to be opened for restaurant visitors in the community center.

Bowling alley

Water damage occurred even further back, which put the bowling alleys, which were also located in the community center basement, out of operation.

In 2019, the defects caused by a short circuit in the new building in the 1970s were discovered.

According to the mayor, the local council will soon look at the project again.

Given the empty municipal coffers and an investment amount of well over 100,000 euros, Floerecke currently sees no realistic chance of building a new bowling alley.
