The new public toilet on Lenggrieser Kalkofenweg is ready.

It is barrier-free - just like the bus stop in front of it.

Lenggries – Work on the new public toilet on Lenggrieser Kalkofenweg has been completed.

The barrier-free bus stop in front of it is also almost finished.

A site appointment.

While the other public toilets in the local area are traditionally brick-built, this is the first time the municipality has opted for a finished module.

There are similar ones in Bad Tölz, and the good experiences there played a role in the decision-making, says Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher.

There are still two benches missing at the bus stop

So that the house still fits harmoniously into the townscape, meets the requirements of the design regulations and looks “visually appealing”, the carpenter gave it a classic gable roof.

This also spans the private garage, to which the toilet is attached.

Because it wasn't entirely clear at the beginning, the implementation took some time, says the town hall boss.

The roof is pulled forward a bit towards the roundabout.

There will soon be space underneath for two benches where you can sit and wait for the bus.

The stop itself was converted to be barrier-free as part of the work.

Tactile – i.e. tactile – elements guide visually impaired or blind people to the bus entrance.

“We also equipped the crossing aid at the roundabout with it,” says Klaffenbacher.

What is still missing is the greenery facing the street.

More barrier-free bus stops will follow at the train station this year

It is the first barrier-free stop in the municipality.

This year the stops at the train station will follow.

“We will probably do this during the summer holidays,” says the mayor.

Because the conversion takes place during ongoing operations - and that is easier if the school buses are not also running.

These first stop conversions cost 140,000 euros, 40,000 euros of which are for the measure on Kalkofenweg, says Karl Ertl from the Technical Building Authority.

At least 50 percent of these are funded.

We'll see how the renovation of the local stops goes, says Klaffenbacher.

In any case, the task is a big one: the municipality itself is responsible for around 20 stops.

Larger toilet cubicle is barrier-free

The toilet block can also be used barrier-free.

Without a threshold, wheelchair users roll into the larger of the two cabins.

The door opens at the push of a button - and makes a long-lasting sound.

At the same time, the bowl flushes.

Whether water, soap dispenser or dryer - everything inside the cabin is labeled in Braille.

Color contrasts are intended to help people who have limited vision.

Disabled people who have a Euro key can open the cabin from the outside at any time - even during night-time closing times.

The women's/disabled cabin is also equipped with a changing table.

“That was important to us because there is a playground nearby,” says Klaffenbacher.

The slightly smaller men's department on the other side has a bowl and a urinal.

Community hopes for fewer problems with vandalism

Vandalism is always a problem with the public toilets in Lenggries.

In mid-January, a window at the Karwendel parking lot was destroyed.

Shortly afterwards, unknown people vandalized the toilet on the Späthwiese (we reported).

The community is also hoping for an improvement in this point with the facility on Kalkofenweg.

All technology is located in a secure room between the two cabins.

The supply of toilet paper and soap is also controlled from there.

Ultimately, there is little accessible that can be destroyed.

You can't lock yourself in the cabin for hours: after 15 minutes, a whistle sounds - and the door opens automatically.

The community invested around 180,000 euros in the toilet.

In theory, the doors require you to insert a coin to go to the toilet.

“This is optional, but we have left it free to use for now,” says Klaffenbacher.
