From France to the most distant overseas territories, there are 68.4 million of us living in the immense French territory
“on which the sun never sets”
, Charles V is said to have said.
This is “the population of France” according to the demographic report published last month by INSEE and from which public opinion has only retained one thing:
“in 2023, fertility falls”
(title of the study).
“As of January 1, 2024, France has 68.4 million inhabitants: 66.1 million residing in mainland France and 2.2 million in the five overseas departments,”
specifies the National Institute of Statistics and economic studies.
It further indicates “
that in 2023, the natural balance, the difference between the numbers of births and deaths recorded over the year, is +47,000”
while
“the migratory balance is provisionally estimated at +183,000 people for 2023.”
