Around 50 doctors from the Artemed clinics in Tutzing, Feldafing and Munich South vented their anger.

At a rally in front of the Tutzinger Hospital, they called for negotiations on a collective agreement.

Tutzing – “Collective agreement, collective agreement,” was what was heard again and again from Tutzinger Bahnhofsstrasse on Wednesday afternoon.

The target: the Benedictus Hospital.

The Marburger Bund union had called on doctors from the Artemed clinics in Tutzing, Feldafing and Munich South to go on a warning strike.

According to the police, around 50 people showed up at the rally, and according to the participants, significantly more stopped working on Wednesday.

Wearing high-visibility vests and some in lab coats, equipped with megaphones and whistles, the – mainly younger – doctors vented their anger.

“Fair pay for everyone”, “recording working hours instead of trusting working hours”, “Lidl is worth it, night shift is not” and “Come in and burn out” were among the things that could be read on the posters.

Ingo Kaspar, deputy managing director of the Marburger Bund Bayern, spoke of a “grassroots movement.

The local doctors came to us,” he said.

Artemed's Tutzingen press office had stated the opposite in a statement: The doctors' union was "actively pushing itself from the outside into a transparent and implemented collective bargaining agreement as part of its membership acquisition."

Artemed follows the Caritas guidelines when it comes to pay and working conditions, but each house also acts individually.

Doctors demand equal conditions for everyone

“Everyone should have the same conditions,” a Tutzingen assistant doctor told Merkur.

A colleague said: “The management doesn't understand what it's like to be overtired and working overtime and constantly stepping in.” The exchange about working conditions is generally good, but you only ever get “small appetizers” and no real improvements.

Thomas Daniel from spinal surgery said that the remuneration for on-call services lags significantly behind compared to other hospitals.

An increase was called for at the beginning of 2023, and an adjustment that wasn't really satisfactory came in December.

“The negotiations are being delayed,” criticized Daniel.

And he assured: There was at least one assistant doctor from every department.

Regional director Max von Holleben ruled out that Artemed was reacting to the strike on Tuesday in a statement to Starnberger Merkur.

“That won’t change our minds.

We are convinced that we have a good solution.” The managing director of the Marburger Bund Bayern, Klaus-Martin Bauer, who was present at the strike, said: “In rejecting collective bargaining, the management of Artemed is citing their Christian values and a family one Each other.

This seems absurd, as these very values require dealing with employees and service providers on an equal footing, which only a collective agreement can guarantee.”

The strike did not have any major impact on the clinic's operations at Lake Starnberg.

However, participants reported that many planned operations had been canceled because of this.
