Around 1,000 students and teachers from the Max-Born-Gymnasium (MBG) set a special example for democracy and tolerance.

They lined up on the school sports field and formed the word “diversity.”

Germering – According to a message from the MBG, the idea for the campaign came from the student body.

The occasion was the nationwide day of action “We are the firewall” on Saturday, February 3rd.

Meetings had been announced in advance for many German cities to demonstrate for an open and liberal society.

That's why the high school's Student Co-Responsibility Committee (SMV) also wanted to set an example.

Student representative Josephine Thomsen (10c): “Especially in these times it is important to take a stand and stand up for diversity and democracy.”

During the action planned by the SMV and carried out during the break, the school community gathered on the school sports field and formed the word “diversity”.

An aerial photo was taken with the help of a drone to document the event.

Drizzle

According to the school, a lot had to be organized in advance - coordinating more than 1,000 people is not an easy task.

The weather forecast also caused some concern for the students right up until the end.

In the end everything was fine and even the light drizzle didn't affect the event.

When headmaster Thomas Höhenleitner heard about the plans in advance, he was immediately ready to support the SMV's cause - among other things by extending the break by ten minutes.

Höhenleitner: “Peaceful coexistence in the spirit of democracy can only succeed if we discover the wealth that lies in diversity, be it at school or in society.” He is proud of the students who have recognized this confess to it.

For years

The MBG has been committed to diversity and against discrimination for years.

For example, there is a “variety” collection of MBG school clothing designed by SMV that can be purchased by students.

The high school has also been part of the “School without Racism – School with Courage” project for years and thus advocates for school life without discrimination and violence.

After the successful campaign, student representative Simon Assal (11a) also pointed out this background and explained: “It is important to us: We not only print the motto 'We are diversity' on our T-shirts, but we also live it every day at our school .”
