The Gilching municipality's e-charging stations at the town hall are becoming increasingly popular.

There was a record usage in January.

Three more are now planned for Hochstift-Freising-Platz.

Gilching

– It has been almost exactly a year since the municipality of Gilching officially put two e-charging stations into operation on Hochstift-Freising-Weg near the town hall.

Figures on usage are now available.

January 2024 brought a record 173 charges.

The two charging stations, each with two charging points, are located at the back of the town hall.

“I have a direct eye on them,” said Mayor Manfred Walter on the phone yesterday morning.

“There's a man from Munich and a man from Starnberg standing there right now.” The charging processes can be started with an RFID card or by scanning the QR code at the station.

The users come from everywhere.

“Some people only stand there for 20 minutes and shop quickly,” suspects Walter.

The maximum parking time is three hours.

In the first month, around 50 drivers took the opportunity to fill up with electricity, and in March 2023 there were already around 110. “It took a while at the beginning, but word has now gotten around about the location,” said Sofiia Vernydub, responsible for the community in the community, yesterday Mobility area.

Little by little, the numbers continued to develop.

“The figures impressively demonstrate how well the e-mobility initiative is accepted by the citizens of Gilching and how important it is to continuously support and expand the infrastructure for electric vehicles,” writes the municipality in a current press release.

In December, more than 160 users charged their vehicles at the charging stations, and in January there were 173. “We assume that the numbers will continue to rise,” says Vernydub.

Three more charging stations are now planned at Hochstift-Freising-Platz, “a tender is required for this”.

All of them are 22 kW normal charging stations with Type 2 plugs.

A more powerful charging station with up to 350 kW could be built in the town center.

“At the Keimling natural food store, we lease two parking spaces to a private company,” explains Mayor Walter.

Basically, electric car owners in Gilching are already quite well looked after.

There are charging stations at Römerstein, the Landsberg municipal utilities operate another charging point with the housing cooperative on Talhofstrasse, as well as a 350 kW system and several 22 kW columns at the Porsche Center.

There are further charging points at the companies Mynaric and Reisenthel (Zeppelinstrasse 2).

When the town hall was built, the municipality also installed six wall boxes in the underground car park.

“They were allowed to be used by the public,” says Walter.

However, the crowds became so great that the access was partially blocked.

“We also now have so many electric vehicles ourselves that we wanted to use the parking spaces ourselves and create an offering above ground.” Today, there are community vehicles or employees’ electric cars in the underground parking spaces.

In addition, visitors to the town hall are allowed to park and charge there in connection with an appointment.

Walter also drives an electric car and enjoys the possibilities of the technology: “The car tells me when I have to get to the next pillar, where it is and whether anyone is standing there.

“It’s very convenient now.”
