The Huglfingers attended the awards ceremony for the “Our Village has a Future” competition in Berlin with a delegation of 80 people.

And the village community is already working on the next project.

Huglfing – After three jury visits within twelve months, the decision was made at the end of June last year: after the district and state decisions, Huglfing also won the federal decision.

As one of seven places, Huglfing was able to claim a gold medal among the 1,107 participating villages from all over Germany.

“I am overwhelmed,” said Mayor Huber at the time after he received the news at town hall.

“The Huglfingers have earned this with their commitment.” The award is a prize for the “sense of community in the village.”

During the recently concluded International Green Week, the celebratory award ceremony with around 2,500 guests took place in Berlin's CityCube congress arena.

Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir presented the gold medal and congratulated on the award.

“This event was unique.

None of the 80 Huglfingers who took part will ever forget this evening,” said Mayor Huber after the celebration, at which a video specially shot about each award winner was shown.

“Our village has a future”: Award in recognition of committed citizens in Huglfing

For many years, Guido Romor, department head of the Office for Rural Development in Upper Bavaria, followed the development of the village of almost 3,000 inhabitants and accompanied the Huglfingers to Berlin: “The persistence of the village community to constantly improve something and the pronounced constructive cooperation were guarantees “for Huglfing’s successful performance,” Romor is quoted as saying in a press release.

With the award, the citizens involved received deserved recognition for their years of commitment, said the construction director.

He was a member of the 24-member expert jury that visited the 22 finalist villages scattered across Germany and assessed their activities.

Huglfing has now been nominated for the Europe-wide competition “Entente Florale Europe” 2025

Huglfing's path in this competition was not initially successful.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the town performed only moderately in the competition - an incentive for the community to keep going.

“Huglfing has continued to develop since the village was renovated,” says Huber.

The local council has worked constructively over the years and made good decisions.

In addition, we were able to improve significantly every time in the competition phase, starting from the district decision up to the national decision.

The jurors were able to see this for themselves during three visits (we reported).

The Europe-wide competition “Entente Florale Europe” (Flourishing Together) is a competition that aims to encourage people to improve the quality of life in communities.

The participants are mostly the winners of national competitions.

Huglfing was nominated as a participant by the federal jury of the future competition from the seven gold medal winners.

Huber is happy about this: “Because we don’t want to rest, we want to develop Huglfing further in the long term.”
