It's time to say goodbye to Teil (Ardèche).
The village church will be demolished.
The earthquake that occurred on November 11, 2019 ravaged the building but also destroyed or damaged numerous homes, the town hall, and schools.
Erected in 1897, in the heart of the village, the imposing stone walls of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption could not withstand the violent tremors that occurred that day.
More than four years after this devastating earthquake, the church is preparing to disappear from the local landscape, while the city slowly recovers.

“It’s a tiring period, not pleasant,” recognizes the mayor of Teil, Olivier Peverelli.
We are fighting against time.
After what we experienced, we had to rebuild quickly.
» And sometimes make painful decisions.
Acting out the destruction of the church was perhaps the most difficult.
The construction site is due to begin this week, causing excitement.
“Believer or not, we realize that everyone is attached to this church.
It is the collective memory that will disappear.
It’s a big emotion,” confides the councilor.
