INTERVIEW - The surge in the price of electricity is largely due to bad choices by our leaders, argues the former president of the National Assembly Bernard Accoyer*, who targets the opening of the electricity market and the insufficient investment in nuclear power.

Electricity could have remained cheaper for the French, and escaped the explosion in its price in 2022, if France had not made two choices which turned out to be very costly.

The first is the opening of the electricity market by yielding to European injunctions.

The second is to have decided to replace, by force, controllable power plants with intermittent renewable energies (ENRi), that is to say, to close fossil and nuclear power plants to replace them with wind turbines and solar panels, by planning a radical reduction in the share of nuclear power in our mix
