A car burned out completely in a motorway parking lot near Geisenbrunn.

The police suspect a technical defect.

Geisenbrunn – The two occupants of the car from the Starnberg district will probably never forget this trip.

As they were traveling on the A 96 towards Munich on Sunday (February 4th) around 5:30 p.m., they suddenly noticed the smell of burning.

Shortly after Geisenbrunn, they drove into the Kreuzlinger Forst parking lot, where their car began to burn completely within a short time.

The occupants were able to get out in time and were uninjured, according to the Fürstenfeldbruck traffic police station.

The vehicle burned out completely

When the Geisenbrunn volunteer fire department arrived shortly afterwards, the car was already fully engulfed in flames.

Two firefighting teams were able to quickly extinguish the flames using breathing apparatus, but the vehicle could no longer be saved.

Support in the extinguishing work came from comrades from Gilching, and the Weßlingen fire department took over traffic safety and temporarily closed the parking lot.

A total of around 40 volunteer firefighters were on duty with several vehicles, reports Geisenbrunn's commander Stefan Siegl at the request of the Starnberger Merkur.

The cooperation between the fire departments worked smoothly, he explained.

The police assume a technical defect was the cause.

Officials were unable to reveal the total amount of damage to the vehicle and the asphalt surface of the parking lot on Monday.
