On Monday, the building committee of the Herrschinger local council configured a toilet facility from a 62-page template that should finally put an end to the annoying issue of dirty public toilets at the train station.

The new building is intended to replace the existing toilets in the old station building.

Herrsching

- Since he took office in 2008, hardly a year went by in which Herrsching's mayor, Christian Schiller, did not make the dirty train station toilets an issue at citizens' meetings.

Since the listed station building has been rededicated in the meantime, there are now concrete ideas for a new use.

However, their implementation is a long way off due to a lack of financial resources.

The situation is different with the toilets - a nuisance that is no longer welcome in the building.

Damage has to be repaired again and again; cleaning is currently necessary twice a day, says Schiller.

This is also why the local council decided on a better visible location on the site (we reported).

On Monday, the building committee secured this location between the existing bicycle racks at the junction with Ladestrasse.

A toilet building is to be set up there on an area measuring 6.70 by 3.80 meters that is easy to clean, safe from rioters and functional.

Everything that the station toilets currently do not fulfill.

The current budget has 350,000 euros available for the new building.

Christoph Schmidt, who is responsible for municipal real estate in the building authority, had prepared a 62-page template for Monday with examples “all of which can be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner” – inside and out.

As soon as it stood, it was painted.

The local councilors are happy to make graffiti protection more expensive by choosing a monochrome glass facade in “Herrsching blue” instead of an exposed concrete facade.

Smears are easier to remove.

The system price for two toilets, each plus a urinal, as well as a disabled toilet including standard and barrier-free equipment is calculated at around 185,000 euros.

The wall tiles should be provided with a graffiti protection layer (7500 euros) so that they can also be easily cleaned.

There should be a hose connection in every toilet to which high-pressure cleaners can be quickly connected (around 1,300 euros).

Additional costs are incurred for establishing the area (23,520 euros) and for a coin-operated system (around 5,200 euros).

At the suggestion of Thomas Bader (CSU), at least one toilet should also be accessible by card payment.

Dr.

Rainer Guggenberger (BGH) confirmed that young people hardly have any change in their pockets.

Anke Rasmussen (Greens) supported this despite monthly fees: “It's expensive fun anyway.

And we want a high level of acceptance.”

There were discussions about whether a roof overhang with integrated lighting makes sense.

“A roof overhang is always good for a facade,” said Bader.

But the mid-five-figure amount that Schmidt estimated would be required for this also made Bader hesitate.

The committee agreed to query the costs for both variants - with and without roof overhang - and only then make a decision.

A changing table was rejected by the majority.

There were too many doubts that the folding shelf with a load capacity of up to 80 kilograms would be used solely for babies.

Schmidt was happy at the end and congratulated the councilors almost solemnly “on the successful configuration of a toilet facility”.
