Zülpicher Straße and the rings:
Zülpicher Straße is probably the largest party zone in Cologne, which is even specially cordoned off.
Here people party and drink on the open streets and on the university meadows.
It's often full here early in the morning.
But that is exactly why there is a lot of criticism.
That's why there will be an additional major event at the Cologne Rings this year.
Cologne Carnival 2024: Security concept and glass ban on women's carnival in Cologne
Special security measures apply in Cologne at Carnival.
A particular focus: the area around Zülpicher Straße.
For years there has been a strict barrier concept with entrance locks and a ban on glass.
This year, too, the special protective measures apply again on Women's Carnival.
There is also a so-called emergency care center in Cologne.
“Medical staff look after alcoholic, stable patients and monitor them medically until they can go home independently or accompanied,” explains the city of Cologne.
Where else is the women’s carnival celebrated in Cologne?
The traditional street carnival, which starts on Weiberfastnacht, is celebrated a few kilometers away on the Alter Markt.
The carnival society “Altstädter Köln” has been celebrating its official opening here for years – complete with a colorful stage program.
Another Cologne party hotspot that day: Südstadt.
There are numerous pubs in Cologne where not only Cologne residents like to celebrate Carnival.
