This is an important step for Reconquête!, Eric Zemmour's party, which is banking on the European elections finding a second wind.
And it was Marion Maréchal, head of the list for the vote on June 9, who announced it this Wednesday at Le Point.
The nationalist party, and its MEP Nicolas Bay, officially joined the group of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), the same as the head of the Italian government Giorgia Meloni, after months of negotiations.
For the young woman, the latter
“is intended to become the pivotal and central group of the right in the Parliament of Strasbourg.”
And to
“become the third political force.”
With the arrival of the young political party, created in November 2021, and the upcoming integration of Fidesz, the formation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Marion Maréchal is clearly putting her cards on the table:
“Undo the project of Macron and his allies”
by
“reducing”
the workforce of the Renew group, where the Macronist elected officials sit.

“their influence within for the benefit of the conservative right.”
Thanks to the training that makes it up, the ERC group, according to Marion Maréchal,
“counts in the (European) institutions, plays a real role”,

The RN “marginalized” in the European Parliament
A strategy opposed to that of the RN, which has always preferred to maintain relations with its allies in the Northern League, including its main leader: Matteo Salvini.

Four months before the European elections, Marion Maréchal also takes the opportunity to appeal to the French at a time when her list is hovering between 6 and 7% voting intentions in the polls.
“The choice of voters, and in particular right-wing voters, will weigh very heavily in the future reconfiguration of European politics
,” considers the former member of parliament for Vaucluse.
Who sees it as a “unique chance
to break with this centrist, soft right, accomplice of Brussels and support of the Commission.”
For her, the PPE group, where the LR MEPs sit, is faced with a dilemma:
“Continue its alliance with the left which allows all progressive excesses and leads to all renunciations”
or “
make an alliance with us, the Conservatives, in resuming a right-wing political line.”
If the mantra of
“the union of the rights”,
carried by Éric Zemmour during the 2022 presidential election, had not found an echo in public opinion, that does not prevent Marion Maréchal from defending it staunchly.
