The city of Cologne is setting up a special emergency center for drunk people.
Cologne – On Women’s Carnival (February 8th) there is traditionally a state of emergency in Cologne.
The whole city becomes a party zone.
Alcoholic drinks are the order of the day for many people.
The first Kölsch is often served in the early hours of the morning.
As a result, so-called “alcohol corpses” occur again and again - and it is precisely for these that the city of Cologne is setting up a special emergency center for the first time.

The police, public order office and private security guards are on large-scale deployment at the Cologne carnival.
The fire department also expects significantly more operations than on a “normal” day, according to the city of Cologne.
One of the reasons for this is that many partygoers underestimate alcohol consumption.
Drunk people often have to be taken to hospitals.
Here they sleep off their intoxication, receive infusions or even have their stomachs pumped.
But that should now change in the Cologne Carnival in 2024.
“In order to relieve the burden on the surrounding hospitals, the fire department will set up an emergency care center at the Humboldtstrasse vocational college for the first time on Weiberfastnacht and on Shrove Monday,” explains the city of Cologne.
“Medical staff look after alcoholic, stable patients there and monitor them medically until they can go home independently or accompanied.” Specifically: The “alcohol corpses”, who only have to be guarded and do not have to go to the hospital due to a medical emergency, can do so there sleep off your intoxication safely, protected and medically monitored.

The emergency care center is one of many measures in the security concept for the Cologne Carnival.
Between Weiberfastnacht and Violet Tuesday, the entire Kwartier Latäng area around Zülpicher Straße is largely cordoned off and becomes a celebration hotspot for countless carnival fans.
