Under pressure from Donald Trump, Republicans in Congress are refusing to pass the law on immigration reform that they have been demanding for months.
Citing the catastrophic situation at the Mexican border, where illegal immigration is breaking records, the Republicans demanded from the Democratic Administration a toughening of migration policy in exchange for their vote for military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan .
Negotiations between senators from both parties resulted on Sunday in a bill covering most of their demands.
In particular measures making it more difficult to invoke the right to asylum, which currently serves the majority of illegal immigrants as a pretext for remaining permanently on American territory, to considerably speed up the examination of their files, and to expel them more quickly in the event of rejection.
