The number of Chinese immigrants to the USA is increasing.

More than 310,000 Chinese leave the People's Republic every year in search of freedom.

Washington, DC – The East is on the rise under Chinese leadership, the West is in decline.

This is China's head of state Xi Jinping's favorite perspective on the world and its future.

But many Chinese want to leave - and are looking for work and freedom in the USA.

The US news magazine

60 Minutes

documented a concentration of illegal Chinese immigration in a broadcast on February 5th.

The article shows a hole in the border fence between the USA and Mexico, around 60 kilometers south of San Diego, California.

The team of reporters documented a consistent scenario over several days: an SUV appears on a barren sandy road, leaves Chinese people standing in the middle of nowhere, and they walk purposefully towards a hole in the fence.

Using a translation app in Mandarin, US border officials explain the process, pack up those seeking protection and drive away.

US-Mexico border: TikTok videos make the hole in the fence famous

The route and the hole in the fence became popular through TikTok videos that explain exactly how to plan the trip from start to finish.

The social network with short videos was founded in China.

Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has around 750 million daily users in the People's Republic.

Many of the Chinese immigrants are middle class and find their way to the United States through Ecuador, the only Latin American country where Chinese citizens are allowed to enter without a visa.

Why do they want to leave China?

Political repression and economic standstill.

What do you hope for from the USA?

Work and freedom.

If Donald Trump were to win the election and a renewed trade conflict with the People's Republic could worsen the situation for people from China.

Chinese have already entered the USA illegally through the hole in the fence?

There are no numbers for this.

The owner of the property in the border region says around 3,000 people slip through the hole every week.

The reporters observed around 600 people in four days.

The migrants include Latin Americans and Indians - although Chinese are the fastest growing group among the migrants.

According to

RND,

US border officials arrested more than 22,000 Chinese people crossing the border illegally between January and September last year.

Many Chinese emigrated during the pandemic.

Experts saw the Communist Party's restrictive Corona policy as the main reason for this.

But after the pandemic ended, the number of Chinese emigrants continued to rise.

The United Nations expects 310,000 Chinese citizens to emigrate in 2023 alone.
