Hours of traffic jams have increased again in the past year.

This is shown by the ADAC's new traffic jam balance sheet.

One highway in particular is affected.

Munich – Anyone who drives their vehicle on Germany's roads will sooner or later get stuck in traffic jams.

And that can often be annoying.

In 2020, the number of hours that people in the Federal Republic spent in traffic jams fell significantly.

The reason: the corona pandemic.

Since then, however, the number has been rising again - and will also do so in 2023, as the new ADAC traffic jam balance shows.

While there were 333,000 hours in 2022, last year there were 427,000 hours.

For comparison: the maximum was in 2019 with 521,000 hours of traffic jams.

However, according to ADAC, why things went up again in 2023 is due, among other things, to many more construction sites on the motorways, people returning to the office and the severe onset of winter at the beginning of December.

More traffic jams in Bavaria: December was particularly busy

Traffic experts predict a further increase in traffic and associated more traffic jams in 2024, mainly due to numerous construction sites.

In the entire year of 2023, the ADAC Südbayern recorded a total of 65,303 hours that people spent in traffic jams in the Free State.

That's an 18 percent increase compared to 2022. Interestingly, winter weather caused more traffic delays than summer travel.

December 2nd was the day with the most severe traffic blockage, with a traffic jam length of 5,757 kilometers and 517 hours of traffic jams.

According to ADAC Südbayern, Autobahn 8 was once again the route with the most traffic jams last year.

Travelers spent a total of 4,662 hours in traffic jams in both directions.

But the A99 from Munich North to Munich South and the A3 between the state border and Regensburg in both directions were also among the most affected routes.
